Sunday, September 21, 2008

Nissan recently announced it will introduce an affordable, all-electric vehicle by 2010 that will roll out globally by 2012. Its success depends largely on battery technology still under development, as well as convincing consumers that most of their daily driving needs can be met by small electric vehicles that can't drive as far or as fast as gas-powered cars.

NISSAN TO RAISE PRICES OF 6 COMMERCIAL VEHICLES IN OCTOBER
Monday, September 1, 2008
Nissan Motor Co. (TSE:7201) on Friday announced price hikes ranging between 30,000 yen (US$277) and 70,000 yen for six commercial vehicles, including light vans and small trucks, as of October 1.

Bruised by runaway materials prices, the automaker will pass on higher costs to end-users through hikes on vehicles using large amounts of steel. But it will not raise passenger car prices, because rival Toyota Motor Corp. (7203) has bumped up its own prices for only several offerings, including hybrids.

The hikes are Nissan's first on commercial vehicles in roughly 16 years.
